i abandoned my desktop in 2014 and something weird and sinister has taken over

(2026 - present)

</3

inspired by ninajirachi’s album ‘i love my computer’, this project also explores my relationship to the internet as a digital native but by asking myself ‘what does the internet look like?’ and ‘what does the internet feel like?’

the digital world was particularly special for me as a teenager as i made online friends and the communities i was part of played a fundamental role in making me who i am today

ads, bots, algorithms and AI as well as the internet moving away from my desktop and to a phone that’s always on me means i can only describe my current relationship to the internet as toxic – it’s a cycle of logging in, overwhelming my brain, feeling guilty for wasting time then logging off

basically, i’m grieving a place that was once my home and am nostalgic for a time and place i will never get back

this is represented by a decaying landscape of digital sludge made to look like i abandoned my desktop one day and an ominous entity is beginning to take over, spill out from the inside and destroy it all
